How to Register a Grievance

If you are facing issues with your passport application โ€” such as excessive delays, incorrect information, or poor service at PSK โ€” you can register a formal grievance through the following channels.

1

Passport Seva Portal โ€” Online Grievance

Login to passportindia.gov.in โ†’ Go to "Register Feedback / Grievance" on the left menu. Fill in your File Number, type of complaint, and description. You will receive a Grievance Reference Number to track your complaint.

2

Call the Helpline

Call 1800-258-1800 (Toll-free) and speak to a representative. They can escalate your complaint and provide updates on pending verifications or processing delays. Have your File Number and Date of Birth ready.

3

CPGRAMS โ€” Central Government Grievance Portal

For unresolved complaints, file a grievance on pgportal.gov.in (CPGRAMS โ€” Centralized Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System). Select Ministry of External Affairs โ†’ Passport Services. This is monitored at the ministerial level.

4

Visit the Passport Office Directly

For serious issues, visit your Regional Passport Office during working hours (9:30 AM โ€“ 6:00 PM, Monโ€“Fri). Carry your appointment receipt, application documents, and a written complaint letter. You can meet the Passport Officer for escalated matters.

RTI (Right to Information)

If your grievance is not resolved within 30 days, you can file an RTI application to the Central Public Information Officer (CPIO) of your Regional Passport Office asking for information on the status and reasons for delay. RTI fee is โ‚น10 (via IPO / online).

Common Queries
How do I contact Passport Seva for urgent help?
For urgent matters, call the toll-free helpline 1800-258-1800 directly. The lines are open Monday to Saturday from 8 AM to 10 PM. For extreme emergencies (like death of family member abroad), you can directly visit your nearest Regional Passport Office during working hours and ask to meet the Duty Officer.
How long does it take to get a response to email queries?
Email responses from the Passport Seva support typically take 3โ€“5 working days. For faster responses, use the online grievance form on the Passport Seva portal (after login) which is monitored more actively. For time-sensitive matters, always call the helpline.
Is the helpline available in Hindi?
Yes. The Passport Seva helpline (1800-258-1800) offers support in both Hindi and English. When you call, you will be given a language selection option. Regional language support may also be available depending on the call centre servicing your region.
Can I get help from a passport agent at the PSK office?
No. Passport Seva Kendras do not allow third-party agents inside the premises. Only the applicant and one accompanying person (for minors or specially-abled applicants) are allowed inside. All services at PSK are provided by trained staff free of any extra charge. Beware of touts operating outside PSK buildings.
