What Do You Need to Track?

File Number

Your unique File Number is printed on the Application Receipt you received at the PSK (also called ARN โ€” Application Reference Number).

Date of Birth

Your Date of Birth as mentioned in your passport application form (same as on your Aadhaar/PAN card).

How to Track โ€” Step by Step

Visit Official Passport Seva Portal

Go to passportindia.gov.in. You do not need to login to track your application.

Go to Quick Links โ†’ Track Application

On the homepage, find the "Quick Links" section and click on "Track Application Status". This takes you directly to the tracking page.

Select Application Type

From the dropdown, select your application type โ€” Passport, Police Clearance Certificate (PCC), or RTI.

Enter File Number and Date of Birth

Enter your File Number (found on your Application Receipt / ARN slip). Enter your Date of Birth in DD/MM/YYYY format.

Click "Track Application Status"

Click the button and the current status of your application will appear, along with the processing stage and any pending actions.

Understanding Application Status Stages

Application Received Your application has been submitted and is in the queue. Wait for PSK appointment date.
Appointment Scheduled Your appointment at PSK has been booked. Visit PSK on scheduled date with documents.
Application Processed at PSK Documents verified at PSK. Forwarded to Passport Office. No action needed. Wait for police verification.
Police Verification Initiated Your local police station has been notified for verification. Be available at your registered address for police visit.
Police Verification Completed Police verification is done and cleared. Passport printing and dispatch will follow soon.
Passport Printed Your passport has been printed at the printing press. Wait for dispatch. Track Speed Post delivery.
Passport Dispatched Passport sent by Speed Post to your registered address. Track your Speed Post consignment via SMS or India Post.
Passport Returned Passport could not be delivered and was returned. Contact Passport Office with your file number and valid ID.
Police Verification Pending (Adverse) Police report has raised an issue or concern. Contact your local police station or Passport Office immediately.
Additional Documents Required Passport Office needs more documents from you. Submit the requested documents to the Passport Office promptly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I find my File Number / ARN?
Your File Number (also called Application Reference Number or ARN) is printed on the Application Receipt that you received after submitting your application at the PSK. It is also sent via SMS to your registered mobile number. The file number format is usually like: AP3456789012345 (starts with state code, followed by numbers).
My status shows "Police Verification Pending" for over 30 days. What to do?
If police verification is pending for more than 30 days: (1) Visit your local police station with your ARN and a copy of your application receipt and request them to expedite the report. (2) File a grievance on the Passport Seva portal under "Register Feedback/Grievance." (3) Call the helpline at 1800-258-1800 and raise a complaint. (4) You can also write/visit your Regional Passport Office.
Status shows "Dispatched" but I haven't received my passport. What to do?
First, track your Speed Post consignment on India Post's website using the tracking number sent via SMS. If it shows "Returned to Sender," visit your nearest Head Post Office. If returned to the Passport Office, visit the Passport Office with your file number and valid photo ID to collect it.
Can I track without File Number if I lost my receipt?
Yes. Login to your Passport Seva portal account. Go to "View Saved/Submitted Applications" โ€” your File Number will be visible there along with the current status. Alternatively, call the helpline at 1800-258-1800 with your registered mobile number and date of birth.
